NYC Eyes 311 Online Access

Abstract:

May, 2006: The New York City government may expand online accessibility to its 311 service that currently handles non-emergency public-safety complaints while it also considers a $13.9 million-plus plan to include information on social services for residents provided by nonprofit groups in the 311 system (TPR, Feb 21).

Proposed legislation from New York City Council Member Gale A. Brewer (D- 6th District), who chairs the council's technology committee, would make the 311 database available in an indexed and searchable format on the City of New York Web site. Additionally, it would allow call-center operators to receive and respond to questions from the public through e-mail and online interactive technology.
