Summary
Over the past 10 years, the Rhode Island Department of Health (HEALTH) has worked with healthcare providers and
other stakeholders to implement a healthcare quality public reporting system for all licensed healthcare
facilities in the State. Initially, the Health Care Quality Performance (HCQP) Program reported data for
home health agencies, hospitals, and nursing homes. During Fiscal Year (FY) 2008 (July 1, 2007 through
June 30, 2008), the Program added two new stakeholder groups to identify ways to report (1) elective
surgical procedure volumes and (2) health information technology (HIT) adoption, both at the physician
level. These activities reflect the Program’s response to a 2006 amendment to the legislation that
expanded the public reporting mandate to include physicians.
This report was released by the Rhode Island Department of Health in October, 2008.
